ARE CARPETS BACK IN STYLE?

Invited Guest Contributors: Roddy Clarke, Aditi Sharma, Nadia Watts

Carpets do seem to be back in style if done right. If you are considering giving up bare floorboards, use these carpet trends as inspiration:

The right carpet trends can make a big design statement, and inject a space with bold colors and patterns making it the focal point of the room.

The carpet is the base for your space; it’s the glue that brings it all together.

Your carpet will ground your room and complement the other elements in the space.  It’s also a huge style statement, as the design and color of your carpet will dictate the entire space.  Start with the carpet and build your design from there, using colors and textures that are pulled from or compliment your rug choice.

Here are some expert-recommended tips and examples. Try adding color to your rooms!

BOLD COLOR

According to many designers, carpet is the new paint and by opting for bright hues it adds a wow factor to the home! Combining a bold color with something softer often helps create balance in your entire color scheme. So many choices!

RECYCLED MATERIALS

Carpets made from plastic fibers such as nylon, polypropylene, or polyester can easily be made from recycled plastic such as water bottles.  These materials are durable and earth-friendly and can be cut to make them feel soft like wool but at a fraction of the price.  Another great sustainable option is recycled yarn.

DECORATIVE BORDERS

When laying a carpet on top of a wooden or tiled floor leave a small gap around the edge allowing it to stand out and give space for a decorative border to be added.

Fringe is a decorative trim that is usually on the shorter end of the rugs, and works well on traditional or contemporary flat woven rugs.

Round edges are in as well as rugs with scalloped edges and unique shapes.

STRIPES

Striped carpets work well when used alongside other striped textiles when the stripes are placed in contrasting directions. Choose wider stripes and repeats to keep the look modern, in keeping with current bedroom trends being less traditional. Stripes can also be utilized to manipulate the perception of space.

SWIRLS

Try incorporating curves and rounded silhouettes into your living room carpet to add a textural effect.

Create visual interest and bring a sense of warmth, and comfort to your room by making it feel inviting and cozy. The rug's textures can also help soften the overall look of a space. Textured rugs can transform a room's ambiance and make it feel more dynamic and visually engaging.

EARTHY HUES

While carpet trends are showing that we can go bolder with our colors and prints, there's also a strong trend for using warm, cocooning, comforting vibes in a room. And this coziness is only enhanced with toasty, earthy tonescan. The easy-to-live-with greige, beige, and natural earthy tones can be paired with warm, deep hues to add richness of tone while maintaining the calm spaces we still crave.

These colors make us feel grounded and secure, optimistic and energetic; ready for a new year, a room refresh or simply to lift us after a long period of uncertainty.

Tired of “just hardwood” floors?  Add color and creativity to any room that needs a refresh, with a rug! This eye-catching addition can add the right vibe to any potential buyer's view of your home!

For the love of a successful decor,

For the love of thinking about your home forward,

Adding value for my clients and loving where we live!
