Besides being a lovely town to live in, and located just outside of the Somerset Hills area, the school is home to one of the best independent professional theaters and boasts being one of the leading Shakespeare Theaters in the nation. The F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey
The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (formerly the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival), named 2014 “Company of the Year” by the Wall Street Journal which also described the Theatre as “one of America’s half-dozen leading classical repertory companies,” is the longest-running classic theatre on the East Coast and New Jersey’s largest professional theatre company dedicated to Shakespeare’s canon and other world classics. The company’s dedication to the classics and commitment to excellence sets critical standards for the field. The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey continues to draw larger and larger audiences and garner unprecedented critical acclaim. Now in its 54th season, the company annually presents six Main Stage productions at the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre, located on the campus of Drew University in Madison, as well as one Outdoor Stage production on the campus of the College of St. Elizabeth in nearby Morris Township, just down the road a bit! American Theater Group (ATG), founded in 2012, produces new and classic works primarily by American playwrights. The company emphasizes the development of new works, and the rediscovery of undeservedly neglected older ones. ATG is in residence at the Mitchell and Ann Sieminski Theater at the Fellowship Cultural Arts Center in Basking Ridge, NJ.
