MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR POOL SAFETY WALL

Beautiful landscaping and decorative features are key to fencing in your pool

Child-proofing your pool space to protect your loved ones and furry babies doesn’t have to be boring.

In-ground pools at homes where children and pets live—or often visit—need some sort of barrier that ensures safety. Walls or fences that are either climb-proof or lockable are the safest bets, however, other types of barriers can be incorporated as well.

Integrate the pool wall with landscaping by giving the effect that it is rising out of the water itself and becoming one edge of the pool surround.  The patterning on the pool wall can be sculptural and can incorporate additional water features such as a waterfall for a sound element or even a cut-out niche for your favorite pottery find.

This can become an architectural element of the home or even a sculptural addition to the landscape design.

From mixing materials to adding in greenery and lighting, there are plenty of walls to make your pool wall or fence attractive.

When exploring the best materials for pool walls/fences, consider glass (for visibility), metal (for durability and security), wood/stone (for a natural look) and vinyl (for low maintenance and affordability).

Use unique designs, artistic metalwork, vibrant tiles, or custom murals to make the wall/fence a focal point or statement piece. Lighting can enhance the visual impact and you can also add other decorative elements like planters, sculptures, outdoor lights, and seating areas. Water features, such as fountains or waterfalls, can enhance the ambience while decorative tiles or mosaics can add a touch of artistry.

When creating a child-safe pool area, a ‘living fence’ is an innovative and attractive option that uses nature as a barrier. Drawing inspiration from the woven willows found in the countryside, a living fence is created by planting fast-growing, densely-branched trees or shrubs and weaving the branches together as they grow. The result is an organic, visually appealing barrier that offers privacy while allowing some visibility. (How very clever!)

More than anything, incorporating beautiful landscaping makes a pool wall more appealing.  You may also want to incorporate outdoor lighting for drama to enhance the wall or gardens.  Read my blog on this subject on my website:  www.JudithSutton.com and learn how important a touch of light can be!
