COUNTERTOP TRENDS FOR YOUR “COUNTERS”
A main character in your kitchen design (or bathrooms, for that matter), is the countertop. It plays a starring role in the overall aesthetic of your space. If you are thinking of redesigning or building something new for your home, here are some countertop trends you may want to consider…read on!
MARBLE
Marble countertops, (an enduring favorite in the design world), are stunning with colors and veining. Veiny marbles like Arabescatto Corchia, Da Vinci, and Calacatta Vagli are all the rage now in kitchen design. In addition to the jaw-dropping look, this bold marble option (with movement and veining) mask the staining and scratching that’s an inevitable part of living with natural stone. It also adds interest to an all-white kitchen or bath! Hooray!
MITER YOUR MATERIAL
If you are looking to achieve the illusion of a thicker countertop, a mitered edge is the way to go. Created by joining two pieces of material at 45-degrees, this 90-degree angle immediately gives the appearance of a substantial piece of stone, and is one of the hottest kitchen countertop trends today! A mitered edge creates a more exaggerated profile giving the illusion of an extra thick slab, while keeping a clean, finished edge. This is the perfect way to add the drama and interest every kitchen needs! This technique also will add levels to your center isle for both dining and presentation!
LEATHER LOOK
Previously, our options for stone finishes were honed and polished, but there is another look to consider. Homeowners are gravitating toward the subtle luxe look of a leathered finish, that is velvety and soft and all about texture. Matte in appearance, this rustic yet elevated option enhances the look of natural stone while being more forgiving with imperfections during daily wear and tear.
PORCELAIN
Porcelain countertops are making waves in kitchen design. Practically immune to damage from heat, staining, chips, and scratches, their low maintenance nature makes them the ideal choice for those that are hard on their surfaces and is proving to be one of this year’s most adoptable kitchen countertop trends. Porcelain is for clients who need that extra durability but do not want to skimp on aesthetics. Many of the patterns and colors are images of actual stone, which gives the porcelain a more natural veining pattern and makes it a preferred design choice over man-made quartz or other countertops.
